Corona - millions of vaccine doses destroyed, new ones ordered

The state of Lower Saxony has just reported that more than 50,000 Corona vaccine doses have been destroyed there alone due to expired shelf life. Among the destroyed doses are also many of the adapted vaccines. According to Der Spiegel, the opposition CDU/CSU had already criticized the federal government's purchasing policy. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) had lost any measure and goal in the vaccine ordering, according to the CSU health politician Stephan Pilsinger told the "Welt am Sonntag". Currently, a total of 101 million vaccine doses are stored in the federal refrigerators. While vaccine doses are expiring in Germany, the funds are still too scarce in many places, according to Spiegel. On the African continent, for example, only about 21 percent of the population has received two vaccinations against Covid-19, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
