At the 2025 BAFTA nominations, new talents take the spotlight while many established actors are overlooked. 42 films have been nominated, with 'Conclave' leading with 12 nominations and 'Emilia Perez' closely behind with 11 nominations. A key point of discussion is that 13 of the 24 nominated actors are first-time nominees. Up-and-coming star Mikey Madison, 25, who stars in 'Anora' alongside Yuriy Borisov, 32, received a nomination. Selena Gomez was nominated for her performance in 'Emilia Perez,' as well as Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo for their roles in 'Wicked.' Among the nominated veteran stars are Zoe Salanda, Demi Moore, Guy Pearce, Isabella Rossellini, Kieran Culkin, Sebastian Stan, and Jeremy Strong. Karla Sofía Gascón, who plays the role of Emilia Perez in the Netflix film of the same name, made history as the first transgender actress to receive a BAFTA nomination. Daniel Craig, Nicole Kidman, Kate Winslet, Amy Adams, and Jude Law were all shortlisted but did not receive nominations. Denzel Washington's impressive performance in 'Gladiator 2' went unnoticed, leaving the two-time Oscar winner still without a BAFTA nomination. David Tennant will host the 2025 BAFTA Awards, which will take place in February at the London Royal Festival Hall.
