"Safely through times of illness: The German sick pay system"

Bron: DEINE.NEWS REEL (Glomex)

In Germany, sick pay represents an important social safeguard when insured persons lose their ability to work due to illness. From the seventh week of sick leave, the health insurance fund steps in and pays sick pay, which is generally 70 percent of gross pay, but can reach a maximum of 90 percent of net pay. Special rules apply to self-employed persons, who must take out their own insurance. Sickness benefit can be paid for up to 72 weeks, provided that the incapacity for work is due to the same illness. This entitlement ensures that those affected are financially secure even during longer periods of illness.
