Aldi customer escalates during bag check - what supermarkets are allowed to do at the checkout

An Aldi customer went berserk during a bag check. The woman refused to have her bag checked at a British branch. The resulting video quickly spread on the internet. In Germany, bag checks are only allowed in case of suspected theft. Aldi employees are not allowed to search bags themselves but must call the police. Such checks are not permissible without the customer's consent. At the same time, refusal can lead to a ban from the premises.
