Tattoo artists in Germany and throughout the EU have had to fear for their livelihoods in the recent past. A large part of the colors used for decades may no longer be used from next year. Jan Willems, co-owner of a tattoo studio in Marl, speaks of a "clear cut" in an interview with the Marler Zeitung when he talks about the so-called REACH regulation. Thereby, hardly any medical problems are recorded per year due to tattoos, but the industry lacks scientific documentation.
