Damage discovered on the Kiel Canal: speed limit planned for ships

Source: SAT.1 Norddeutschland (Glomex)

The Kiel Canal is one of the busiest artificial waterways in the world - in the middle of Schleswig-Holstein. With dozens of ships every day, one or the other repair is inevitable. The lock gates in particular were often affected. But now there is a bigger problem that will keep those responsible busy for the next few years: damage to the embankments. Whole sections are apparently full of holes and are in danger of slipping into the water - especially between Rendsburg and Brunsbüttel. The competent authority is now planning a speed limit for ships and a partial overtaking ban
