Paul McCartney has recovered a bass guitar he lost 51 years ago after it was stolen from the back of a van in London. The musician used the guitar to record some of the Beatles' most famous hits, including "Love Me Do" and "She Loves You". The instrument was found in the attic of a family in Sussex as part of a search project called Lost Bass. McCartney bought the guitar in 1961, and it was stolen in 1972. The Sussex family contacted Lost Bass when they realized they had an old bass guitar in their attic. "Following the launch of the Lost Bass project last year, Paul McCartney's 1961 Höfner 500/1 bass guitar, which was stolen in 1972, has been returned. The guitar has been authenticated by Höfner and Paul is incredibly grateful," said a McCartney spokesperson. Speaking to BBC News, Lost Bass described the case as "the biggest mystery in the history of rock and roll".
