Farmers are supposed to destroy swallow nests? Supermarkets are putting pressure

Barn swallows are part of rural life. However, hygiene requirements of the food industry demand certificates like GLOBALG.A.P. from agricultural businesses, according to the State Association for Bird Protection (LBV). The catch: The certificates require the removal of swallow nests. Yet, the nests are protected by the Federal Nature Conservation Act and must not be destroyed. The LBV urges the retail sector to take nature conservation seriously.
