The current asylum system is not being abused. This assessment is made by asylum law expert Daniel Thym at FOCUS online. He contradicts the thesis of BAMF chief Hans-Eckard Sommer. Sommer wants to abolish the basic right to asylum and introduce humanitarian admission quotas. Thym sees many advantages in the proposal, but also a downside. He sees major challenges in practical feasibility and ethical values. His analysis shows that complex EU-wide legal changes are necessary. Short-term solutions are hardly feasible.
