18 swimmers venture into the 7 degree cold water at the 20th Nikolauswimmen Among them was the world champion in ice mile swimming, Paul Bieber. He bravely tackled the 800-meter course wearing only a pair of swimming trunks. Only two of the 18 swimmers were without a wetsuit. The temperatures were zippy: the outside temperature was 3 degrees and the water temperature was 7 degrees. The swimmers' route led from the sailing harbor to the federal railway harbor on the picturesque island of Lindau. The swimmers even pulled a Christmas tree on a platform behind them. On their way, they were secured by three boats from the water rescue service.
