The city of Birmingham, in the United Kingdom, is quickly turning into a "third world city" and a "war zone," according to residents affected by the ongoing trash strikes. Members of the Unite union have been on a general strike since March 11 in a dispute over salaries and job losses. The strike has left 17,000 tons of garbage on the streets.
