The new Volkswagen Golf R Variant - driving dynamics in a new dimension

Like the compact Golf R, the Golf R Variant also has the newly developed 4MOTION all-wheel drive including R-Performance Torque Vectoring with wheel-selective torque control on the rear axle. The drive force is not only distributed between the front and rear axles as required via a new rear axle drive, but also between the rear wheels. The innovative drive system significantly increases the agility of the new Golf R Variant, especially when cornering. At the same time, safety is increased, since in the curve more drive force is directed to the rear wheel on the outside of the curve. This gives the vehicle high traction with neutral driving behavior. The 4MOTION all-wheel drive system is networked with other chassis systems such as the electronic differential locks (XDS) and the optionally available adaptive chassis control DCC, which offers various settings, via the vehicle dynamics manager. The result: a highly precise and neutral driving experience, optimal traction and outstanding agility. In short: maximum driving pleasure. The final vote was taken on the new Golf R Variant on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. In the optional R-Performance package, the performance station wagon has two additional driving profiles: In “Special” mode, all essential drive parameters are designed for the Nordschleife and similarly demanding racetracks. The “Drift” driving profile opens a new window of driving dynamics away from public roads and significantly increases driving pleasure and safety when driving sideways
