The new Volkswagen Tayron - 4MOTION with intelligent multi-plate clutch

Source: AUTOMOTOTV (Glomex)

The all-wheel drive 4MOTION of the Tayron uses a sixth-generation multi-plate clutch for power transmission to the rear axle. It is characterized by intelligent drive management: Under normal driving conditions - such as in the city on dry roads without maximum load demand - only the front axle is driven. This is economical. Only with higher load demand or lateral acceleration or impending wheel slip, the rear axle is also driven via the 4MOTION clutch and propeller shaft. The all-wheel drive can also be switched on 'manually' via the driving experience switch, for example, to permanently use the all-wheel drive on the way to the ski slope. In addition to the 'Eco', 'Comfort', 'Sport', and 'Individual' profiles, the all-wheel drive profiles 'Offroad' and 'Snow' are available for the 4MOTION models.
