Leading a healthy lifestyle can be easier than you think, and researchers have compiled a short list of five key factors to focus on to live longer. Not smoking, controlling blood pressure, maintaining cholesterol levels within the normal range, watching for diabetes, and finally, maintaining a healthy weight are the five key factors for a longer life. This was pointed out by the company Irccs Neuromed in Isernia, which was involved in the study presented at the American College of Cardiology Congress and published in the New England Journal of Medicine. The research, coordinated by the Global Cardiovascular Risk Consortium, analyzed an incredible number of over 2 million people from 39 countries. The study showed that cardiovascular health is a crucial factor for people's life expectancy and quality of life. As Dr. Licia Iacovello explained, the scientists quantified the benefits of controlling the five factors mentioned above and converted them into additional years of life. "The results show that the benefit is considerable and that intervention is possible at any age: even those who start taking care of their health later can achieve measurable benefits". reported Licia Iacoviello, Head of the Epidemiology and Prevention Department at Neuromed. The research shows that women in their 50s who do not have any of the five main risk factors live an average of 13.3 years longer without cardiovascular diseases, while they die 11.8 years later than their peers. And for men? The difference is also significant: 10.6 more years without illness and 14.5 gained years of life if they keep the five factors discovered by the scientists under control.
