How to Make Your Grill Non-Stick with This One Vegetable

Source: VIDEOELEPHANT (Glomex)

Now that summer is around the corner, it's time to fire up the grill. There's nothing more annoying than a sticky grill, but strangely enough, there's a vegetable that can help. A raw potato can change your grilling experience. Cut a potato in half and rub the inside on the grill grates to make them non-stick. Protein-rich foods like fish and meat can stick to cast iron grill grates because chemical compounds form between the proteins and the metal. The starch in the potato forms a protective barrier over the grates, similar to how cooking oil works. After heating, the gelatinized potato starch prevents food from sticking to the grill grates. To ensure the potato trick works every time, make sure your grill is clean by turning it off after each use and scraping the grates with a brush.
